Espuela De Plata is owned and operated by the Lew Thompson Family and the Mike Hildebrand Family, and serves as the horse division of South Texas Cattle Marketing, located in Pearsall, Texas. Rooted in true ranch work, our program is built on producing horses that are as dependable as they are versatile.
Every horse we raise is expected to put in a day’s work. Our program emphasizes sound-minded, durable horses that can handle the demands of everyday ranch life. From the saddle to the broodmare band, our mares are selected for their versatility, grit, and proven ability in real-world conditions.
We take pride in breeding horses that are known for their endurance, toughness, and willingness to work. Every mare in our program is required to prove herself in our ranching operation before joining the broodmare brand. Each year, we breed approximately 25 carefully selected mares, producing colts that go on to become trusted working cow horses across the United States and into Mexico.
